One hundred and twenty eight schools from Goa will be participating in the Goa Cricket Association (GCA) U-14 tournament scheduled to start in the last week of November and end by the last week of January and one hundred and twenty five schools will participate in the U-16 category that will commence after the u-14 tournament is over.
The U-14 tournament is going to be played over two days , stated GCA secretary Vipul Phadke.
“ The idea of starting a two day format is to give the boys an experience of how to stay on wickets . We have seen that our boys are unable to stay on the wickets and play . That is why this new format is being introduced, “stated Vipul Phadke.
“By introducing this new format, we expect the boys to be able to adapt to national level tournaments once they are selected to represent Goa,” added Vipul Phadke.
The two tournaments are to be played on thirteen grounds earmarked by GCA for the same. Seven of these grounds are based in South Goa whilst the remaining is in the North.
There will be a fifteen break in the month of January when the boys selected to represent Goa for the South Zone will be having a preparatory camp in Porvorim before the tournament.
“Soon after the U-14 tournament, The GCA will be hosting the U-16 tournament. The U-16 tournament will be in the one day format,” stated Vipul Phadke.
The GCA has also devise an app where the scores of the U-14 tournament will be available live . “ With this live score through cric heroes. The games played in Sanguem will not be available live as there is poor connectivity in Sanguem. We are trying to solve the problem,” stated Vipul Phadke.
