GCA NEWS BYTES Jagmohan Dalmiya, a pioneering figure in the cricketing fraternity, breathed his last yesterday on September 20, 2015. Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president, Jagmohan Dalmiya, suffered from a major cardiac arrest after being admitted to a hospital, four days back. He succumbed to internal gastrointestinal bleeding and internal organ failure , according to doctors attending on him. Dalmiya has been hailed as the architect of India's rise as the game's financial superpower. He is responsible for bringing the World Cup home in 1987 and 1996. He also has the unique distinction of being the first Asian head of the International Cricket Council, which he served from 1997 to 2000, marking a departure from heads coming from old superpowers like England and Australia. Dalmiya has served the BCCI for more than three decades, turning tables for cricket's capabilities of revenue generation and transforming the lives of leading Indian cricketers. Even though Dalmiya has been infamous for often being in poor health, his death came as a shock to cricketers, patrons and fans all over. West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee announced that the veteran administrator will be given state honours. His funeral will take place at Keoratala crematorium on Monday. "Dalmiya ji loved cricket. For him , the good of the game came first. It was his vision that helped cricket leapfrog to center stage in Indian sports. His loss will be ir reparable not only to the game but all those who followed it," stated Goa Cricket Association (GCA) President Mr. Chetan Desai .
