PORVORIM:
Goa Cricket Association will kick off preparations for the 2021-22 season with pre-season fitness and rehabilitation programme on virtual mode. The senior men and women's talent pool will take part in the programme to be charted out by S&C expert Arjun Basu while the overall exercise will be under the guidance of the director of coaching and cricket operations Prakash Mayenkar and other support staff.
While physiotherapist Vivek Mishra will be monitoring the men's regimen physiotherapist Anushree Desai will be in charge of the women's section. The workout for both the categories of players will be assisted by trainer Ninad Pawaskar and Salma Divkar respectively.
The senior men's talent pool comprising 33 players, will begin the training process with an online introductory session on Wednesday, June 16. Mayenkar will brief the players on various aspects of the overall training methodology while their data about their status of fitness, off-season injuries suffered if any, COVID-related, last-season injury rehabilitation update etc; will be sought by physio Mishra. Depending on the response of the players, an individual training/rehabilitation programme will be planned. After the verbal communication on the Zoom platform and in a couple of days time, the assessment will move to a physical state where players will be put to test under routines like plank, push-ups etc, to determine the benchmark at the beginning of pre-season. Those still carrying injuries will be looked at in a personalised manner and will be put through a specialist rehab routine. The progress will be scrutinised at regular intervals while the overall programme also remains dynamic subject to COVID-related SOPs and the possibility of forming groups to train at the GCA academy facilities depending upon the government and BCCI directives. The programme for women's talent pool consisting of 42 players, will be held from June 17, in a similar manner.
