Goa trips after enterprising start: Womens Senior 1 Day Trophy

NEWS BYTE PORVORIM Tejaswini Duragad tried to keep Goa in sight of victory with her knock of 69 runs from 65 balls and her two wicket haul earlier but that was not enough to stop Maharashtra register a 55 run win over Goa in the BCCI Senior Womens One Day Trophy tournament at KL Saini stadium in Jaipur on Tuesday. Maharashtra won the toss and opted to bat and was restricted to 242 for the loss of 7 wickets in the allotted 50 overs. Rupali S Chavan emerged as the highest wicket taker for Goa with a reading of 8-0-42-3. Sunanda chipped in with two wickets giving away 51 runs in her 10 overs whilst Tejaswini Duragad finished her ten overs surrendering 53 runs. Needing 243 to win in 50 overs, Maharashtra bundled out Goa for 187 in 45.2 overs with Tejaswini Duragad taking the onus of getting close to the target assigned. Tejaswini was assisted by Nikita who scored 35 from 61 balls and Vinavi Gaurav scored 29 from 54 balls. Purvaja Verlekar 16 (12) ; Sanjula S Naik 12(26) and Gawde Diksha 10(18) were the other batsmen to cross the double digit mark for Goa. With this first defeat, Goa is on 8 points having won the other two matches.
