PORVORIM:
Anant Tambavekar is delighted with the opportunity to coach Goa Women's Cricket Team and described it as a 'proud feeling'. "Honestly speaking, it's a proud feeling for me and I feel good for the girls as well. It's also a big thing that GCA has given this chance to me although I am from a small city (Sangli). Having worked with youth girls in the past, I can say the overall caliber of the group is good," stated Tambavekar, who is renowned in the country as the personal coach of the classy left-hander and Team India WT20I vice-captain Smriti Mandhana.
A total of 29 players are part of the Goa women's fitness-cum-nets camp that commenced at GCA Academy here on Monday. Having a sound knowledge about their level from his experience of the 2019-20 season as the coach of U-19 and U-23 sides, Tambavekar will be able to generate continuity in the learning process for the players.
Moreover, his experience of working with one of the highest level players like Mandhana will be a huge advantage and source of motivation for the state girls. Tambavekar, 34, has ICC Level 1 coaching certificate and is also a very experienced Pro having played for Indian Oil Corporation in Goa Corporate League; and Dempo CC, Chowgule & Caculo in Goa Professional League organized by GCA in the past.
Experienced coach Anuradha Redkar is assisting Tambavekar. "The women's camp has been split into groups with the bunch of players taking turns with fitness work and nets session. We will assess their skills and fitness as they are coming from their homes following the off-season. Steadily, we will bring in the progressions from the second week," added Anuradha.
