Kerala lead Goa colts by 224 runs : Vijay Merchant

NEWS BYTE PORVORIM Kerala led Goa colts by 224 runs at close of play on the first day of the South Zone Vijay Merchant Trophy (U-16) match being played at the Goa cricket Association (GCA) Academy ground in Porvorim on Friday. Kerala won the toss and opted to field and bowled the Goa colts for 43 runs in 20.4 overs. Sanath Nevagi (15) and Ayush Karapurkar(16) were the only two batsmen to have reached the double digit mark. Both did so facing 29 balls each. Four batsmen from Goa —captain Arsh Sardesai , Darpan Pagui, Pradnyesh Ganonkar and Bhagesh Rekdo— were dismissed without being able to open their account. Rohan Naik was not out on 0. For Kerala , Vinay Varghese and Niranjan Dev were the pick of their bowlers with both claiming for wickets a piece. Kerala began their innings before the lunch break and captain Abhishek Nair ended as the star batsman of the day with a knock of 121 from 153 balls. Goa's Sanath Nevagi claimed his wicket and was the only wicket taker for Goa at the close of play. Appu Prakash was not out on 91 at close of play with Kerala's score reading 267 for the loss of one wicket. Rohan Naik finished as the most economical bowler for Goa with an economy of 2.67. Shreyash U and Sanath Nevagi had an economy of plus 3 with the latter claiming the only wicket for Goa.
