Andhra takes 1st innings lead as tie against Goa ends in draw: Vijay Merchant

NEWS BYTE PORVOROM Goa and Andhra Pradesh drew their penultimate tie of the Vijay Merchant Trophy with the latter taking the first innings lead of 96 runs at the Goa Cricket association (GCA) ground in Porvorim on Thursday. Andhra started their first innings on 222 for the loss of six wickets and scored hundred runs in the first hour of the morning — losing five wickets in the bargain- before declaring at 324 for the loss of nine wickets. In reply, Goa started the second innings steadily with opener Izaan Shaikh and captain Arsh Sardesai scoring 53 and 57 respectively and taking Goa's total to 141 for 2 before both teams settled for a draw with Andhra returning home with three points and Goa retaining one. Devankumar Chittem scored 31. Shreyash Usgaonkar was the pick of the Goan bowlers, claiming six wickets in 27 overs and conceding 87 runs. Faizan Sayed claimed the other two wickets. Kallum Reddy (104) and Shaik Rasheed (101) were the top scorers for Andhra Pradesh.
