GCA to start training age group players ; GPL to start from April 20

NEWS BYTES PORVORIM “Goa Cricket Association (GCA) Managing Committee decided in its last meeting to conduct open selections for U-14 and U-16 boys and put them through training to prepare them for next year’s tournaments as our children suffered due to the curbs imposed in the last two years because of the pandemic,” stated GCA secretary Vipul Phadke in the presence of GCA treasurer Paresh Phadte at the GCA Boardroom in Porvorim on Monday. “ Our children suffered immensely during this last two years due to the curbs imposed during the pandemic and we thought it is better to start them early so that we get ready for next year’s season,” added Phadke. “Level 1 and level 2 coaches under the aegis of GCA will be involved in this program.”, added Phadke. “ The Managing committee also decided to set the 365 days Training program planned in eight Centers in Goa rolling. The first Centre is going to start in Sanguem soon wherein 35 schools have confirmed their participation,” disclosed Phadke. A basic 12 day camp will be held by coach Paresh Padiyar and training will be given to students where their performance will be assessed through parameters set by coaching director Prakash Mayekar,” elaborated Phadke. The Goa Premier League is set to start on April 20 and six teams – Dempo SC, Chowgules, Karimabad C C, Salgaocar SC, Margao Cricket Club and Geno S C – have been shortlisted to participate in the league. Teams will be able to select players on point based auctions to be conducted by GCA soon after the u-25 team players arrive and their physical fitness to participate is accessed by the GCA medical team, according to GCA treasurer Vipul Phadke. The auction is slated for April 11. “Each Premier League team will consists of 16 players, four of which will be from Elite A group, 4 from Elite B group, 5 from under age groups and 3 unlisted players who have performed well in the recently concluded A Division League.
