news
NEWS BYTES "The COVID-19 situation has not really improved for GCA to conduct its tournaments. However, we are keen on trying to start the Goa Premier League if things improve. Let us wait and hope for the best, " Vipul Phadke, secretary of GCA said after the Executive committee meeting. "Our President Suraj Lotlikar kept us abreast of the current situation in cricket vis a vis the pandemic and we were informed that the BCCI intends having the Vijay Hazare tournament along with the women's tournament. That is why we thought it would be right to organise the GPL," explained Phadke. "At the moment it does not seem appropriate to assemble all the boys for the Division A and B matches as health-wise it is too risky to get the players from all over Goa to play in the lower division league. But, our intention is to play the Premier League. We will put forth this decision to the Managing Committee", emphasised Phadke. "Vipul Phadke was all praise for the Goa team that finished the Syed  Mushtaq Ali Trophy with three wins and amassed 12 points from Elite Group D, " I think our players, selectors, coaches and the director and the team behind need credit for the stellar performance given the circumstances, the team was put together during the time of the pandemic," stressed Phadke.
