Goa defeat Mizoram; qualify for KO: Womens Senior 1 Day Trophy

NEWS BYTES PORVORIM Goa Cricket Association (GCA) women defeated Cricket Association of Mizoram (CAM) by eight wickets and qualified for the knock out stage of the Womens Senior 1 Day Trophy organised by BCCI at the Dr PVJ Raju ACA Sports complex in Vizinagram on Saturday. Goa finished the Elite Group D in the second position having accumulated 12 points from the four matches played. Mizoram won the toss and elected to bat and were bundled out by Goa for 58 in 38.1 overs. In reply , Goa scored 62 for the loss of two wickets in 14.3 overs. Goa never allowed Mizoram to get a foothold in the match with captain Shikha Pandey claiming four wickets from her eight overs. Her bowling figures at the end of the match read: 8 overs ; 4 maidens ;and 6 runs. Sunanda and Rupali S Chavan claimed two wickets a piece with sunanda giving away 14 runs in her eight overs and Rupali sacrificing four runs in her 7.1 overs. Nikita and Poorva Bhaidkar claimed one wicket each. Goa batted with gusto with opener Purvaja Verlekar remaining not out on 25 from the 39 balls she faced and the winning runs coming from Nikita who scored 17 from the 16 balls she faced. Shrey contributed 11 runs and Tejaswini Duragad 4 runs.
